Digest/ed

Now that I’ve officially deleted my personal profile on Facebook (the Kelly Sunrose Yoga page lives on), I am curious about the best way to share the books, ideas, articles and podcasts that are inspiring me. I do still use Twitter, but am spending much less time online and now that I’m in a period of “deep work”, I find the short, burst-like sharing of social media does not really gel with my flow. So, I’m playing with the idea to share a post here every week with a digest of what is moving me.

Without further ado, here is our first Friday digest:

  • Podcasts: I am really into Note to Self and Code Switch these days.
    • Note to Self is all about being human in the digital age, with many thought-provoking posts about concentration, social media, human behavior and more. (This episode of Note to Self finally led to my personal exodus from FB.)
    • Code Switch is all about race and identity. It is so good. Highly recommend.
  • Book: Deep Work by Cal Newport. (Ok, this also contributed to my decision to delete my profile completely from FB.) This book is all about the importance (and elusiveness) of periods of uninterrupted, cognitively demanding work. Also, advice on how to create spaces in your life for doing deep work.
  • Articles:
    • I love to read Brain Pickings and basically did all of my holiday shopping from this post about the The Greatest Science Writing of the year.
    • Angela Jamison’s blog, Inside Owl, has been one of my favorites for nearly a decade. Her latest post is brilliant as ever.

And this week on my own podcast, I talk about seasonal self-care. You can listen right here.

Also, for the holidays, please consider contributing to one of your most treasured causes. I’m donating 15% of all proceeds from the Sunrose Yoga Shop to Sacred Stone Legal Fund, Black Lives Matter and Planned Parenthood.

Thanks for reading. Stay in touch.
